Bithell Games has announced the “majority of [its] full-time staff” have been made redundant.

Studio boss Mike Bithell shared a statement on Bluesky, confirming eleven roles had been affected after the developer was unable to secure funding for a “new larger scale project”.

“It became clear leading up to the release of our most recent game [Tron: Catalyst] that we were not immune to the challenges faced by many game development teams seeking funding partners in 2024 and 2025,” wrote Bithell.

“We’ve fortunately been able to communicate these challenges ahead of time, and work with affected staff to ease departures as much as possible via severance packages. It’s important to state that this was an incredible team of exceptionally talented people.”

Bithell clarified that the redundancies “will not impact the availability of [its] existing self-published games and ongoing support for them.”

One employee affected by the layoffs was Rich Stubbs, a senior animator.

“Like a lot of the industry now, unfortunately I have been made redundant,” Stubbs wrote on LinkedIn.

“Working at Bithell Games has been a genuinely great ride, being the sole animator on a Disney project is a badge of honour I will wear with an incredible amount of pride.

“Big love and respect to the studio and everyone I’ve worked with over the years.”

Bithell Games was founded in 2013 following the success of Thomas Was Alone. It’s also known for Tron: Identity, John Wick: Hex, and The Banished Vault.
