Nintendo has announced who will play Link and Zelda in its forthcoming live-action The Legend of Zelda film, with two relatively unknown actors taking the lead roles.

Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason, while Link will be played by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. The news was shared in a social media post from series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, adding: “I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.”

Bragason is a young English actress with a very slight filmography, having most recently been in the Disney+ series Renegade Nell and the 2024 film The Radleys. As for games, she played Young Luna in the Final Fantasy 15 animated film Kingsglaive.

Ainsworth, meanwhile, is a 16-year-old English actor with roles in Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor and comic book adaptation The Sandman.

The film is due for release on 7th May 2027, having been recently delayed from a March 2027 release.

This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/KA5XW3lwul

Little else is known about the film adaptation, in particular if it will be based on any one game in the series in particular. What’s more, who will be playing Ganon? And will he be in pig or human form, or both?

Earlier this week we reported Nintendo has registered copyright for a Donkey Kong film, suggesting this could be the next film adaptation from the company.
